Dear Glebe Families
As we move closer to the end of another busy and rewarding half term, I would like to thank all of our Year 1 parents who joined us this week for our enrichment event and lunch experience. It was wonderful to welcome you into school.
Our Year 6 pupils have also begun their practice tests this week. These assessments help us identify strengths and any areas where additional support may be needed as we prepare for the end-of-year statutory tests. We have been incredibly impressed with the maturity, resilience and positive attitudes they have shown throughout the process.
Today, our school community came together for World Mental Health Day in support of mental health awareness. Thank you for your generous support and for helping us reinforce such an important message with our children. Looking after our mental health is just as important as looking after our physical health, and days like today provide valuable opportunities to talk openly about wellbeing, kindness and supporting one another.
We are also looking forward to welcoming many of you into school next week for parents’ evening. These meetings are an important opportunity to celebrate your child’s achievements, discuss their progress and work together to ensure they continue to flourish throughout the year. We value these conversations and the strong partnership we share with our families.
Unbelievably, next week is the final week of the half term. It hardly seems possible that the autumn evenings have already drawn in and the colder weather has arrived. As the season changes, it serves as a reminder of just how quickly the school year is progressing.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week.
Warm regards
Mr Clarke

News from EYFS
Another very busy week in Reception and it is finally starting to feel like Autumn!
This week the children have loved learning about different types of families and we have all loved seeing the photos so thank you for sending them in.
We have also had another very successful week learning our next four sounds in phonics – we do hope you are enjoying the actions at home! In maths we have been learning that patterns have a rule and to say what the rule is. There was lots of fun with train patterns on the interactive whiteboard using a game on the Topmarks website. We have also used natural resources, penguins, shapes and even ourselves to make patterns.
We have also learnt the British Sign Language signs for good morning and good afternoon – maybe you can create your own sign name to go with it? Try asking the children what ours are.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!
News from the Resource Base
The weather may not have been at its best today but we have certainly had a sunny day with our children dressed in yellow. They have not only focused and engaged with their learning as they normally would but also discussed what mental health is, what looking after our mental health may look like, and taken into consideration how they can affect and support the mental health of others.
It is getting to that time of year where we start preparing for our cathedral performance. Information on the date, travel, and items needed, will communicated via letter after half term.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Influential Figure – Thomas Pesquet
Thomas Pesquet is a French astronaut, engineer, and pilot who works with the European Space Agency (ESA). Born in France in 1978, he has spent many months living and working aboard the International Space Station (ISS), where he carried out scientific experiments and helped researchers learn more about space and life beyond Earth. Thomas Pesquet is also known for sharing amazing photographs of our planet taken from space, inspiring young people to develop an interest in science, technology, and exploration.
Music Moment
Our music moment this week was Olympic Fanfare and Theme. Composer: John Williams (1932-).
Fortnightly Focus – Ambition
Our focus is on Ambition as we encourage all pupils to aim high and challenge themselves to achieve their very best. Whether it is improving in a subject, taking part in a new activity, or working towards personal goals through our Personal Development Curriculum, every child has the opportunity to grow and succeed. By showing determination, resilience and a positive attitude to learning, pupils can reach important milestones and celebrate their achievements. We are proud of the ambition our children show each day as they work towards a successful future.

On Wednesday, Mr Acquah took 10 boys from Years 5 and 6 to the Castle Point Schools Football Tournament, held on the 4G astro pitch at Deanes School. It was a highly competitive event, featuring 20 schools divided into four groups of five. The tournament showcased an impressive range of talented footballers from across the district, with teams demonstrating excellent skill, determination and sportsmanship.
Glebe put in a strong effort throughout the competition, drawing two matches and narrowly losing two others. Despite their commitment and competitive performances, the team unfortunately did not secure enough points to qualify for the knockout stages.
Overall, it was a valuable experience for the Glebe players, providing an opportunity to compete against strong opposition, develop their skills and gain confidence for future competitions.
