This week, the class with the highest attendance was 3D with 98.3%.  Well done!  The attendance reward will be coming your way.

Communication

We would like to take this opportunity to remind families about our communication arrangements, to help ensure communication remains clear, respectful, and effective for everyone.

When getting in touch, we kindly ask parents and carers to follow our Communications Policy, which helps us make sure questions and concerns are directed to the right person.  Our response time is up to 72 hours, although we always aim to respond within this timeframe wherever possible.

We ask that all messages to staff are written in a polite and respectful tone.  Our staff are always happy to support your child, and clear, calm communication helps us work together positively for the benefit of all our pupils.

We would also like to remind families that the same expectations of polite, respectful and appropriate communication apply to face-to-face conversations with members of staff.  We understand that parents and carers may sometimes have concerns or feel frustrated, and we are always willing to listen and work together to resolve issues.  However, conversations should remain calm and respectful at all times, including in person.  Rudeness, raised voices, or an inappropriate or confrontational tone are not acceptable and can make it more difficult to resolve concerns constructively.

Please note that Class Dojo is used for daily messages and general information only.  It should not be used for urgent matters or more complex concerns.  In these cases, please contact the school office or arrange a meeting with the relevant member of staff, in line with our communication flow chart.

Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to support children with their reading.  Just one hour a week can help build confidence, improve reading skills and make a real difference.  If you would like to get involved, please email admin@glebeschool.com.

Parent Governors

We are looking for volunteers to join our Governing Body.  We meet five times a year, on Tuesday evenings between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.  If you have the drive, or flexibility to support the school, please email admin@glebeschool.com.

Secondary School Places for September 2027

Year 6 parents and carers can now apply for a secondary school place via Secondary school places | Essex County Council.

The statutory national closing date for applications is 31 October 2026.

Philbrick Gate

We would like to let parents and carers know about a new arrangement regarding the Philbrick gate.

The gate will now be closed at 3.20pm.  We kindly ask that all families leave the school site before this time and do not remain on the school grounds.

News from EYFS

We are already at the end of our third week back and the children continue to settle into our classes and routines beautifully.

Thank you to those of you that came to the welcome meeting and apologies for not quite finishing.  The file is attached on Class Dojo with all the information on including future dates.

This week we have enjoyed learning the story of The Colour Monster and all about our feelings.  The children have shared how they feel with us and explained things that make them feel calm, love, angry, sad and happy.  They have been very interested to show us how they feel using our Colour Monster chart.

Next week we will continue with The Colour Monster and read other books related to our feelings and talk about how to deal with emotions such as worries and when things make them feel angry.

News from the Resource Base

The Resource Base staff have been incredibly proud of our children so far.  They have settled well into their classes and groupings and have been working hard.  I have been impressed with their resilience and their use of self-advocacy so far which is something we will be continuing to focus on in the upcoming weeks.  In the Resource Base group, we have been writing our sentences using colourful semantics.  It is having a wonderful impact on the children’s confidence in understanding and using English word order.  We also celebrated as one of our pupils was successful in becoming Team Captain.  All in all, we have a lot to celebrate this week which is why our sign of the week must be ‘celebrate’.  Well done everyone!

Influential Figure – Beatrix Potter

Beatrix Potter was a much-loved British author and illustrator who brought the natural world to life through her stories and beautiful drawings.  She is best known for characters such as Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck and Squirrel Nutkin, which continue to be enjoyed by children today.  Beatrix was also passionate about animals, nature and the countryside, and she used her creativity and knowledge to share these interests with others.  Her story encourages children to use their imagination, appreciate the natural world and see how creativity and hard work can become something that brings joy to generations of people.

Music Moment

Our music moment this week was Symphony No. 5 – First Movement (Opening Theme).  Composer: Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827).

Fortnightly Focus – Excellence

This fortnight, our focus is on Excellence as we continue to embed our new behaviour and reward system.  Pupils can earn Dojos by consistently demonstrating excellent learning behaviours, wearing their uniform with pride, and moving sensibly and respectfully around school.  By making positive choices every day, children are helping to create a calm, purposeful environment where everyone can learn and succeed.  We look forward to celebrating those who strive for excellence and set a positive example for others.
