Dear Glebe Families
As we come to the end of another busy and successful week, I would like to thank all of our families for their continued support. Year 1 had a fantastic Knights and Castles Day, bringing their history learning to life through a range of engaging activities. The children looked wonderful in their costumes, with a fantastic display of knights, kings, queens, princesses and even a few fierce dragons! Throughout the day, pupils explored life in a medieval castle, learned about the role of knights and enjoyed creative activities linked to their learning.
We are also incredibly proud of our newly appointed Year 6 Team Captains and Prefects, who have settled quickly into their leadership roles. They have already begun modelling our school values through their positive attitudes, responsibility and support for younger pupils around the school. Their commitment to being excellent role models is helping to foster a strong sense of community and belonging, and we look forward to seeing them continue to develop their leadership skills throughout the year.
Looking ahead to next week, we warmly welcome our Reception parents and carers to our phonics information meeting. This is a valuable opportunity to see how phonics is taught in school, gain a deeper understanding of early reading development and learn practical strategies that can be used at home to support your child’s progress and confidence as a reader.
We are also very excited for Year 6, who will be travelling to Walton-on-the-Naze for their educational visit. The trip will provide pupils with the opportunity to explore the coastline, develop their geographical understanding of coastal processes and enjoy learning in a real-world environment beyond the classroom. We hope they have a memorable and enriching experience and look forward to hearing all about their adventures when they return.

News from EYFS
This week we have continued using The Colour Monster to learn about our feelings. We have written our own class story about the Colour Monster losing a teddy and how this makes him feel. Luckily we had a happy ending and the teddy was found. We learnt about how to deal with our feelings when we are sad or mixed up and did some role play helping the children understand what they can do to when they have emotions they don’t understand.
In maths we have been comparing and sorting. We used the story ‘All Sorts’ as a base for our topic and we have sorted all kinds of objects – including ourselves! We also started talking about Autumn and how the leaves are changing colour and we went on a leaf hunt to look for coloured leaves.
Next week we begin our first week of phonic sounds and we will be using the book ‘Super Duper You’ by Sophy Henn.
News from the Resource Base
The children have been showing great resilience in the Resource Base and their classes this week. Although work has been challenging, they have tried hard and taken on board hints and tips to help them be successful. They have used new equipment to support their learning and will hopefully show you this with their homework. With these skills being shown, the sign for this week is try.
Influential Figure – Leonardo da Vinci
Leonardo da Vinci was an Italian artist, inventor, and thinker who lived over 500 years ago. He is best known for painting famous works such as the Mona Lisa, but he was also fascinated by science, engineering, and nature. Leonardo loved to ask questions and explore how things worked, making detailed sketches of inventions and observations of the world around him. Today, he is remembered as one of history’s greatest creative minds and an excellent example of curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning.

Our music moment this week was The Blue Danube. Composer: Johann Strauss II (1825-1899).
Fortnightly Focus – Excellence
Our focus is on Excellence as we continue to embed our new behaviour and reward system. Pupils can earn Dojos by consistently demonstrating excellent learning behaviours, wearing their uniform with pride, and moving sensibly and respectfully around school. By making positive choices every day, children are helping to create a calm, purposeful environment where everyone can learn and succeed. We look forward to celebrating those who strive for excellence and set a positive example for others.

Congratulations to our newly appointed Prefects!
Each of our Prefects wrote and delivered a speech to Year 6 staff and their peers, showcasing their confidence, leadership and commitment to our school community. They were selected by staff for consistently demonstrating Glebe’s LEARN values since the start of September.
We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing them thrive in their new roles throughout the year.
