Headteacher’s Message

Dear Glebe Families

What a fantastic start to the new school year!  We have just wrapped up our first full week back, and I could not be prouder of how beautifully the children have settled into their routines.  There is already a wonderful energy around the school, and it has been a joy to see everyone returning with such enthusiasm and ready to learn.

We had so much to celebrate in our whole-school assembly today.  It was the perfect opportunity to highlight the incredible choices our children are already making.  A few special mentions from today’s celebrations:

-Great Role Models: A huge well done to the pupils who have stepped up this week to show our school values in action, setting an excellent example for their peers.

-Exceptional Presentation: I was incredibly impressed by the pride the children are taking in their work.  The standard of presentation across all year groups has been outstanding.

-97% School-Wide Attendance: We hit a brilliant 97% attendance rate across the entire school this week!  Thank you for your continued support in ensuring your children are in school and ready to learn every day.  Let’s keep this fantastic momentum going!

It was also wonderful to see so many of you at our parent welcome meetings this week.  Thank you for turning out in such numbers; your high levels of engagement and partnership mean the world to us, and it is the foundation of a successful year ahead.

In other exciting news, we were delighted to welcome back the Open the Book team for their assemblies this week.  Their visits are always a highlight for the children, bringing stories to life in such an engaging way.

Finally, we received some spectacular news this week.  We recently discovered that 15 of our talented children who participated in a poetry competition have had their work selected and published in a real children’s book!  This is a monumental achievement.  A huge congratulations to our published poets – we are all immensely proud of you!

Thank you all for making our first full week back so collaborative.  I hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing weekend with your families.

Warm regards

Mr Clarke

Contacting the School

We kindly ask that parents and carers contact their child’s teacher via Class Dojo in the first instance if they have a question, concern or message relating to their child.

Our office team are currently receiving a very high volume of emails, telephone calls and visitors, which can make it difficult for them to respond as quickly as we would like.

Your child’s teacher is often best placed to help with day-to-day queries and can respond directly via Class Dojo.  Of course, the office team remain available for matters that specifically require their support.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support in helping us to manage communication effectively.

Online Forms

A reminder to complete the online forms if you haven’t already done so.  It is important that we receive a response from everyone.  Thank you for your co-operation.

For Resource Base pupils only, please email attendance@glebeschool.com.

Please contact the school before 8.30am on each subsequent day of absence.  Please do not use Class Dojo to report absences.

If your child has a medical or other appointment, please email proof of the appointment to attendance@glebeschool.com.  If your child will be arriving later in the morning, please let us know their meal option for the day.

Pick Up Arrangements

If the adult collecting your child changes on a particular day, please do not email the school, as this may not be seen in time.  Instead, please call the school so that a message can be passed to your child’s class teacher.

Scopay Dinner Options

A reminder that parents should select their child’s meal choices in advance.

News from EYFS

Our first week has been full of activity and engagement.  Students have demonstrated considerable resilience as they have become familiar with their new classrooms, staff, and peers.  We are incredibly pleased with how well they have adjusted and their progress in learning our classroom routines.

Next week, we will begin our topic “Super Me, Super You.”  Our first book is The Colour Monster, through which we will explore emotions and self-awareness.

Parents are invited to a welcome meeting on Wednesday 16 September at 2.45pm in the KS1 hall, entry via the Talbot Avenue gate.  We will review information from the initial welcome meeting and ensure you feel settled into Glebe school life.

Influential Figure – Emmeline Pankhurst

Emmeline Pankhurst was an important British campaigner who worked to make society fairer for women.  She believed that women should have the same opportunities as men and, most importantly, the right to have their voices heard by being able to vote.  Her determination and courage helped bring attention to the campaign for women’s right to vote and contributed to the changes that followed.  Learning about Emmeline Pankhurst gives children the opportunity to think about fairness, equality and democracy, and how ordinary people can make a difference when they stand up for what they believe is right.

Music Moment

Our music moment this week was The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba.  Composer – George Frideric Handel.

Fortnightly Focus – Leadership

This fortnight, our focus is on Leadership as we launch our new Personal Development Curriculum.  Pupils will have exciting opportunities to demonstrate leadership skills, take on new challenges and work towards achieving rewards and badges.  By showcasing their learning and accomplishments through our end-of-year milestones, children can celebrate their progress and recognise the positive impact they have made in school and beyond.  We encourage all pupils to take pride in their achievements, support others, and lead by example as they continue their personal development journey.

Achievements

On Sunday, Oscar in Year 4 took part in the South Essex Gymnastics Club in-house competition.  After competing across all six events, Oscar was absolutely over the moon to discover that he had come 1st in his category!

We are incredibly proud of him. His coaches have supported and encouraged him to grow in both skill and strength, and it is wonderful to see just how passionate Oscar is about gymnastics.

Oscar works so hard, always gives everything his best and, most importantly, clearly loves every minute of it!  We hope he continues along this path and keeps enjoying something he is so passionate about.

We can’t wait to see what the next year brings!

Well done, Oscar – you absolutely smashed it!

Celebrating Our Young Poets!

Mr Acquah introduced and encouraged our KS2 children to challenge themselves and write poems for a Young Writers competition.

We are delighted to celebrate the fantastic achievement of a number of our talented children whose wonderful poems have been selected for publication in a Young Writers anthology!

The children showcased their creativity through a fantastic range of poetry, including acrostic poems, rhyming couplets, silly poems and imaginative narrative poems.  It has been wonderful to see their ideas, humour and creativity brought to life through their writing.

Having their work published is a fantastic achievement and something they should all be extremely proud of.

Well done to all our amazing young poets – keep writing, keep creating and keep sharing your wonderful ideas!

Healthy Snacks and Nut-Free School

We have noticed over the past couple of days that a number of children have been bringing items such as packets of crisps to eat as their break time snack.

As a school, we are keen to promote healthy choices and healthy lifestyles.  We also want to encourage children to think about the food they eat as “brain food” – choosing foods that provide them with the energy and nutrition they need to concentrate, learn and demonstrate positive learning behaviours throughout the school day.

We would therefore ask that children bring a healthy snack to eat at break time.  Please see the poster below for guidance on suitable healthy snack choices.

If a child brings crisps or another snack that is not suitable for break time, they will be asked to put it back in their bag and save it for lunchtime.

We really appreciate your support in helping us to promote healthy choices and encourage children to develop healthy habits that support both their wellbeing and their learning.

Thank you for your continued support.
