Dear Glebe Families
As another busy and exciting week comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on some of the wonderful experiences our children have enjoyed.
On Wednesday, our Nursery children had a fantastic time during their sports morning, followed by a lovely picnic with their families. Although I was unable to attend this year’s event, as I was supporting our Year 5 and 6 athletics team at the QuadKids County Final, I have heard all about the wonderful morning the children had. It sounds as though there were plenty of smiles, lots of enthusiasm and some fantastic sporting efforts on display. Thank you to all the families who joined us and helped make the event such a success.
The Resource Base attended a trip to Hylands Park on Wednesday. The visit provided a valuable opportunity for staff and children to spend time together as a unit while building relationships with children and colleagues from other local Resource Bases.
Year 4 thoroughly immersed themselves in a magical Harry Potter-themed day, and it was an absolute delight to see the incredible effort that had gone into their costumes. From Hogwarts students to well-known characters from the wizarding world, the creativity and attention to detail were fantastic. The children embraced the spirit of the day with great enthusiasm, and it was wonderful to see their excitement as they celebrated their learning in such a memorable way. Thank you to families for supporting the day and helping to make it such a magical experience for the children.
I had the privilege of watching our Year 5 and 6 athletics team represent the school at the QuadKids County Final. Competing against some of the very best schools in Essex, our team achieved an outstanding third place in the county – a phenomenal accomplishment that everyone should be incredibly proud of. A special congratulations goes to Oli, who was crowned the top male points scorer, earning a well-deserved Gold medal. This is an exceptional individual achievement and, alongside the team’s success, filled us all with an enormous sense of pride. Well done to every member of the team for representing our school with such determination, resilience and excellent sportsmanship.
Today, our District Sports team are competing at Garon Park. We wish them the very best of luck and look forward to sharing the results with you early next week. Whatever the outcome, we know they will represent our school with pride and give their very best. Good luck, team Glebe!
Looking ahead to next week, we are excited to welcome parents and families to our Year 6 production. We know the children have been working incredibly hard and cannot wait to showcase their talents.
We are also delighted to be welcoming the Essex Library Service as they launch this year’s Big Summer Challenge, encouraging children to keep reading throughout the summer holidays. We hope as many children as possible will take part.
With the warmer weather expected to continue next week, children are welcome to attend school in their PE uniform to help them stay cool and comfortable. Please ensure that this is the correct school PE uniform, as outlined in our uniform expectations.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I hope you all have a wonderful, relaxing weekend, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday.
Warm regards
Mr Clarke

Uniform Expectations – Monday 6 July to Friday 10 July
With the warmer weather expected to continue, children are welcome to attend school in their PE uniform to help them stay cool and comfortable. Please ensure that this is the correct school PE uniform, as outlined in our uniform expectations.
England’s Football Match – Monday 6 July
We know there is a great deal of excitement surrounding England’s football match in the early hours of Monday morning. We are also aware that many families will want to maintain their usual bedtime and morning routines.
With this in mind, we’d love your support in keeping the biggest surprise possible!
School will open as normal on Monday morning at the usual time. In each year group, children will have the choice of either watching the England match on catch-up or taking part in a range of calm, low-key curriculum activities. If your child watches the game at home, please help us by encouraging them not to share the result with others, so everyone who wants to enjoy the match later can do so without knowing the score.
Thank you for your support in helping us make this a fun and memorable experience for all, while keeping the excitement alive!
News from EYFS
This week, we have continued our learning about our topic, ‘On the Farm’. Our focus story has been Pig in a Pond, and the children have developed some wonderful, and at times very funny, descriptive vocabulary as they imagined what the characters might say. They have also come up with some imaginative ideas to describe the pond itself.
In Maths, we have been focusing on making connections, solving problems, and checking our understanding. We have revisited odd and even numbers, compared lengths, and explored one more and one less within 20.
The children have enjoyed using their creative skills to make pigs, cows, and hens, as well as collaging a pond scene inspired by Pig in a Pond. We have continued to support our topic through imaginative play, and it has been lovely to watch the children model pigs and other farm animals splashing in the mud before giving them a good clean.
We had an informative visit from the dental team on Thursday and the children learned all about the importance of how often to brush their teeth and how different foods affect their teeth.
News from the Resource Base
This week, for the children across the RB, on Monday and Tuesday they had transition mornings where we could experience some new routines and new groupings for September. The feedback has been really positive. The children have taken it in their stride and are keen for further transition mornings, before the summer break.
On Wednesday, we enjoyed our annual trip to Hylands Park with the other local Resource Bases. This gave staff and children the opportunity to socialise together as a unit as well as interacting with others from different Resource Bases. The children had a great day. They played on the play equipment, played football and we even had a game of top trumps going on, under the gazebo.
RBH: After a busy start to the week, in English we have been working on our writing skills, writing a class write to go with our story with no words ‘Flotsam’. We have been using a range of skills from our success criteria and following our steps to success, to help us write effectively and to check and edit our writing. The children identified the errors in my writing and helped me to edit and improve. In Maths, we have been recapping and practising our learning around telling the time on an analogue clock.
RBN: On Thursday, Year 4 enjoyed a wonderful Harry Potter Day. They made and drank Butterbeer and experimented on how best to protect a dragon’s egg in case it was dropped. When I went into class, they were all engaged and thoroughly enjoying the experience.
On Friday in Deaf Studies, we were discussing the term ‘self-advocacy’. We looked at the definition and how we could use this within the classrooms in Glebe as we transition to our tier model.
A fun and jam packed week! Next week has 3 days of transition into our tier model. We look forward to supporting the children in more fun activities.
RBR: On Monday and Tuesday, the children took part in their transition mornings, giving them the opportunity to experience what September will be like in their new classes. It was wonderful to see them approach this new chapter with confidence and enthusiasm.
On Wednesday, we visited Hylands Park for the annual Resource Base trip, where we met with children and staff from other local Resource Bases. The day provided a wonderful opportunity to strengthen friendships within our own Resource Base while also socialising and building new connections with Deaf children from other schools. It was lovely to see everyone interacting so confidently and enjoying the day together.
In Deaf Studies, the children in RBR have begun working as museum curators. Each child is creating an exhibit based on one of four key themes: Identity, Communication, Access, or Culture. Over the coming weeks, they will design a creative display to showcase what they have learned this year.
In English, our detectives have continued investigating the Great Diamond Theft by interviewing the suspects and writing formal interview transcripts. The children have been working hard to ensure their questions and responses reflect the evidence gathered so far, bringing their detective work to life.
It has been a fantastic week of new experiences, collaboration, and creativity, and the children have represented the Resource Base brilliantly.
Influential Figure – Katherine Johnson
Katherine Johnson was an inspiring mathematician whose incredible skills helped make space exploration possible. Working for NASA, she used her knowledge of maths to calculate the flight paths for some of the first American space missions, including the mission that sent astronauts to the Moon. Katherine Johnson’s determination, curiosity, and love of learning show children that hard work and problem-solving can help achieve amazing things and inspire future generations in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
Music Moment
Our music moment this week was Don’t Stop Me Now – Queen.
Fortnightly Focus – Excellence
During Weeks 5 and 6, we will focus on achieving excellence in teaching, learning and personal achievement.

On Wednesday 1 July, Glebe proudly represented the Castle Point and Rochford district at the QuadKids Essex County Finals in Saffron Walden.
Well done to all eight athletes for representing Glebe with resilience, commitment, teamwork and outstanding sportsmanship. You were a credit to yourselves, our school and the Castle Point and Rochford district.
We couldn’t be prouder of you all!
Mrs Howard recently hosted an exciting whole-school art competition inspired by the work of Salvador Dalí. After exploring one of his most famous paintings, The Persistence of Memory (featuring the iconic melting clocks), children were challenged to create their own imaginative piece of artwork inspired by his surreal style.
The standard of entries was exceptionally high, with every child demonstrating fantastic creativity, imagination and effort.
Congratulations to our winners: Elsie, who received the award for Most Dream-like; Millie, who won Most Creative; and Danny, whose artwork earned the award for Strangest Idea.
A huge well done to everyone who took part – the range of incredible artwork submitted made judging a very difficult task!
