Dear Glebe Families
What a busy and eventful week it has been in school.
It was wonderful to see our children embrace their transition morning, spending time in their new classrooms with their new teachers. These opportunities are so important in helping children feel excited and confident about the year ahead. We were also delighted to welcome our new Reception families for their Stay and Play session, and we look forward to seeing those children begin their journey with us in September.
Thank you to everyone who attended our Meet the Teacher event on Tuesday. We hope you found it informative and that it provided a valuable opportunity to meet staff and learn more about the next stage of your child’s learning journey.
Like many of you, I was disappointed that we had to cancel the FOGP Summer Fete. While it was a shame not to bring our community together in the way we had planned, we are already exploring an exciting alternative event and look forward to sharing details with you in due course.
The exceptionally warm weather this week has certainly presented some challenges. I would like to thank all families for their flexibility and understanding regarding the early school closure. I have to admit that I wrestled with the decision, carefully weighing up the needs of our children, families and staff. Ultimately, the wellbeing and comfort of everyone in our school community had to be our priority. I hope the arrangements made were able to accommodate the needs of all families as best as possible, and I am grateful for the support and understanding shown throughout.
As always, thank you for your continued support of our school. It is greatly appreciated!
Warm regards
Mr Clarke

News from EYFS
The children have been amazing in the heat this week.
In literacy, we have been developing our writing skills by sequencing the story Farmer Duck and writing about each key event. The children then used their knowledge of the story to write a recount of the beginning of the story. Their use of tricky words within their sentences was fantastic, and we were very impressed with their efforts.
In Maths, we have been learning about maps, exploring what they are, what they are used for, and the different types of maps people use. The children created maps of our classroom, designed treasure maps, and worked collaboratively to make giant maps of zoos, fairylands, farms, and even Treasure Island.
The warm weather has inspired lots of exciting water-based learning opportunities. The children have enjoyed washing farm animals, revisiting capacity through water play, making fragrances, and creating a ‘Water World’ with Duplo bricks, complete with water slides. We even set up our own foot spa as part of a beauty salon role-play area!
To further develop fine motor skills, the children collaged maps to guide Teddy home, created their own farm scenes, and made peg patterns on our ‘lollipop’.
Throughout the hot weather, the children have been incredibly sensible, patient, and responsible. We are very proud of them all.
News from the Resource Base
RBR: This week we have completed our end of term assessments. The children have worked incredibly hard throughout the week, showing real perseverance and determination to do their very best. They should all be proud of the effort and resilience they have demonstrated.
In English, we have continued building our case against Feathers McGraw. The children, having taken on the role of detectives, created detailed criminal profiles and wrote witness statements to strengthen the evidence file. They thought carefully about the evidence available, ensuring their statements were clear, accurate, and convincing.
It has been a busy but rewarding week, and I have been incredibly impressed by the maturity, resilience, and focus the children have shown throughout their assessments and detective work.
RBN: The children have completed their final assessments of the year. Even with the extreme heat they have settled and focussed so that they could try their best. They have shown great confidence, resilience, and pride in completing these. We worked through the papers together after completion so that the children could celebrate success and identify areas for improvement. Well done RBN!
RBH: This week the children have been completing their assessments. I am incredibly proud of their efforts. They have shown great resilience and perseverance in both their English and Maths assessments. The children have worked hard. They have enjoyed our brain breaks and have been considerate to their classmates by working quietly and respectfully.
In Maths the children have learnt a little more about time – including recapping how many minutes there are in an hour and how many hours there are in the day. They have also been practising their arithmetic skills – with a particular focus on using their times tables that they have learnt, as well as addition and subtraction.
We end the week with some time spent with their new teacher in mainstream, for our next academic year. Lots of positive energy, ready for moving into Year 3 in September!
Influential Figure – Greta Thunberg
Greta Thunberg is an inspiring environmental activist who has encouraged people around the world to think about protecting our planet. From a young age, she has spoken about the importance of tackling climate change and caring for the environment for future generations. Greta’s determination shows children that they can use their voices to raise awareness about issues they care about and make a positive difference in their communities and beyond.
Music Moment
Our music moment this week was Katy Perry – Roar.
