Dear Glebe Families
Another great week at Glebe!
It was a real pleasure to welcome so many of you from 1D to join your children for lunch and some fantastic castle painting, what a creative and joyful session it was! Last Friday, we also had a wonderful turnout for 1P’s parent event. It’s always so exciting to see Year 1 families engaging so enthusiastically with their children’s learning.
Meanwhile, iRock have been playing their hearts out this week, we love hearing the music from our bands drift through the school. It adds such a vibrant, energetic buzz to the building.
Next week marks the final week of the first half term, can you believe it? We hope you’ve all been able to make the most of the slightly longer two-week half term ahead!
Mrs Coote and I had the pleasure of monitoring the learning environment across the school this week. We were truly impressed by the creativity and care evident in all our classroom displays. A huge thank you to our amazing staff for pouring so much time, love, and energy into making Glebe such a vibrant and inspiring place to learn.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Warm regards
Mr Clarke

Enhancing Our Curriculum – Music Lessons
As part of our ongoing efforts to further enrich our curriculum, we are exploring the possibility of having Essex Music Service deliver music lessons in guitar, piano/keyboard and drums.
These lessons would be delivered by specialist music tutors during the school day. Each session would last 15 minutes, and a block of 10 sessions would cost approximately £100.
If you are interested in your child taking part in these lessons, please complete the form below to register your interest. This will help us assess the level of demand before making any final arrangements.
We look forward to your responses and the potential to bring this exciting opportunity to our pupils.

News from the Resource Base
In RBN, we have been enjoying a story from an unfamiliar setting. We have read Gregory Cool where the children made predictions from the book cover. They made some very clever guesses. In Maths, we have been looking at Roman Numerals and adding ones, tens and hundreds.
This week in RBR, in English the children have been writing their own information texts about their chosen animal. They have been using their skills they built on last week. In Maths the children have been learning about negative numbers.
In RBS we had a mysterious bag left in our classroom, inside there was a map of Peru, a London underground map, a train ticket and a jar of marmalade! The children guessed the bag belonged to Paddington Bear. We made some marmalade sandwiches, the children described the marmalade as ‘sticky, wobbly, orangey, sweet.’
News from EYFS
This week in Reception, we have continued our learning all about Autumn. The children went on a nature walk to collect leaves, which they then used to create their own imaginative leaf people, inspired by this week’s story, Leaf Man.
Using the leaves we collected, we also explored leaf rubbing techniques and had fun describing the leaves’ textures and colours. The children even tried writing some of the initial sounds they could hear in autumn-related words, such as red and crunchy.
In maths, our focus has been on repeating patterns. The children explored patterns using body percussion (clap, jump, clap, jump) and natural resources from the classroom, such as acorn, conker, acorn, conker. Not only did they complete given patterns, but they also had a go at creating their own!
Influential Figure – Greta Thunberg
Greta Thunberg is a young climate activist from Sweden who began speaking out about protecting the planet when she was just 15 years old. She became known around the world for encouraging people to reduce pollution, care for nature, and take climate change seriously. Greta believes that no one is too small to make a difference, and she inspires children and adults alike to take simple actions like recycling, saving energy, and looking after the environment. Her story helps young people learn about responsibility, kindness to the Earth, and the power of speaking up for what is right.
Music Moment
Our music moment next week is Recycled Material Junk Music Band – Weapons of Sound.
Fortnightly Focus – Ambition for Every Child
At Glebe, we believe every child should have the chance to achieve their very best and we are committed to making sure that no child is left behind, regardless of background. Over the next two weeks, our focus is on supporting disadvantaged pupils to thrive both in and out of the classroom. Here’s how you can help at home, and what we’ll be focusing on in school:
Attendance – Every Day Counts
Being in school every day makes a huge difference. Even just a few missed days can create gaps in learning.
We’re working closely with families to:
-Celebrate improved attendance
-Support routines that help children get to school on time
-Ensure every day is a positive one!
Why it matters: Every child has the right to an education (UNICEF Article 28), and the opportunity to succeed.
Curriculum – Daily Support in Class
In class, teachers are spending time each day working with small groups to make sure every child, especially those who may need extra help, can fully access lessons.
This includes:
-Extra explanations
-Encouragement and feedback
-Boosting confidence to take part
“Fair” means giving every child what they need to succeed, not always the same, but always what’s needed.
Clubs & Opportunities – Getting Involved
We want every child to take part in at least one club or activity this term. Clubs help build:
-Confidence
-Friendships
-New skills and passions
Please speak to us if there’s a barrier (e.g. cost, uniform, transport) as we’re here to help.
UNICEF Article 29 says every child should have the chance to develop their talents and interests.
Thank you for your continued support. Working together, we can ensure that every child at Glebe feels ambitious, included, and ready to shine.
