Headteacher’s Message

Dear Glebe Families

I hope this message finds you well.

Firstly, I would like to extend a huge thank you to Mrs Coote and our brilliant leadership team for doing such a fantastic job of looking after the school this week while I was away on training.  It’s always reassuring to know that the school continues to run smoothly and with such care in my absence.

A quick heads-up for your diaries: school will close early at 1.00pm on Thursday 13 November (as previously) to allow us time to prepare for our Open Evening, which will run from 3.00pm to 5.30pm.  We’re really looking forward to showcasing all the wonderful things happening at our school.  Thank you in advance for your support with the early finish.

This week also saw the exciting return of Forest School sessions.  The children have been thoroughly enjoying learning outdoors, connecting with nature, and developing their confidence and teamwork skills in a new environment.

Finally, a big congratulations to our girls’ and boys’ football teams who have made us incredibly proud with their recent matches.  Their teamwork, determination, and sportsmanship have been brilliant to see.  Well done to all involved!

Wishing you a restful weekend.

Warm regards

Mr Clarke

News from the Resource Base

In RBN, the children have been working extremely hard on using powerful vocabulary in their writing to excite and interest a reader.  I was incredibly impressed with their knowledge of powerful adjectives that they had built from last week.  I was also delighted to see these used in their homework.  Well done!

In RBS, the children have been very busy.  Not only have they been writing their story, they have also been ordering numbers and objects.  Keep up the hard work RBS, we are proud of you!

In RBR, in maths we have been learning about rounding, including rounding to the nearest 10,000. In English we have been creating our own creatures and developing them in our guided writing for our own information texts.

News from EYFS

This week in Reception, the children have been learning all about measure.  We began the week by reading Dear Zoo and used the story to compare the sizes of the animals.  The children then used cubes to measure how big or small the animals might be.

Later in the week, we used our feet and hands to measure different objects around the classroom and outside learning area.  The children really enjoyed this hands-on approach to understanding size and length.

Next week in maths, we’ll be exploring patterns, using musical instruments to create and continue simple sound sequences.

In literacy, we’ve been learning and talking about our families.  The children enjoyed drawing pictures of their family members, and some even had a go at writing letters and words to label their pictures.

We’ve continued our topic on Autumn, learning about the changes we can see in nature.  The children used the beautiful leaves brought in from home to create their own autumn-inspired art.

Next week, we hope to go on an Autumn walk to spot seasonal changes and collect more leaves for our displays.  If you haven’t already, please remember to send your child’s welly boots into school so they’re ready for our outdoor adventures!

Influential Figure – Martin Luther King Jr.

A brave and kind leader who worked hard to make sure everyone is treated fairly and with respect.  He believed in peace and used his words and actions to bring people together to fight against unfair rules.  His famous “I Have a Dream” speech inspires us all to imagine a world where everyone is equal.  His courage and hope continue to teach us about kindness, justice and standing up for what is right.

Music Moment

Our music moment next week is Nina Simone – Feeling Good.

Fortnightly Focus – Ambition for Every Child

At Glebe, we believe every child should have the chance to achieve their very best and we are committed to making sure that no child is left behind, regardless of background.  Over the next two weeks, our focus is on supporting disadvantaged pupils to thrive both in and out of the classroom. Here’s how you can help at home, and what we’ll be focusing on in school:

Attendance – Every Day Counts

Being in school every day makes a huge difference. Even just a few missed days can create gaps in learning.

We’re working closely with families to:

-Celebrate improved attendance

-Support routines that help children get to school on time

-Ensure every day is a positive one!

Why it matters: Every child has the right to an education (UNICEF Article 28), and the opportunity to succeed.

Curriculum – Daily Support in Class

In class, teachers are spending time each day working with small groups to make sure every child, especially those who may need extra help, can fully access lessons.

This includes:

-Extra explanations

-Encouragement and feedback

-Boosting confidence to take part

“Fair” means giving every child what they need to succeed, not always the same, but always what’s needed.

Clubs & Opportunities – Getting Involved

We want every child to take part in at least one club or activity this term. Clubs help build:

-Confidence

-Friendships

-New skills and passions

Please speak to us if there’s a barrier (e.g. cost, uniform, transport) as we’re here to help.

UNICEF Article 29 says every child should have the chance to develop their talents and interests.

Thank you for your continued support.  Working together, we can ensure that every child at Glebe feels ambitious, included, and ready to shine.
