Headteacher’s Message

Dear Glebe Families

It’s been a busy and exciting week in school as we begin the transition towards the new academic year.  The children have thoroughly enjoyed spending time in their new classrooms, meeting their new teachers and getting a feel for the routines and arrangements ahead of September.  There was a real buzz of excitement, particularly among Years 5 and 6, as we saw all three classrooms full – a rare sight, but one full of energy, fun and plenty of laughter.  It was wonderful to see how quickly the children settled, embracing the change with enthusiasm and a great sense of curiosity. We’re looking forward to building on this positive start as the term draws to a close.

Year 6 are also diving headfirst into preparations for their end of year production. Without giving too much away – no spoilers here! – we can confirm that the dance routines are already being choreographed and the children are throwing themselves into rehearsals with creativity and commitment.  On top of that, we’ve just returned from an unforgettable residential trip, where the children truly shone.  I had the pleasure of joining them on Wednesday and witnessed first-hand their courage and determination, especially during the vertical challenge – a daunting task that they approached with amazing resilience.  The whole experience was filled with adventure, team spirit and laughter. And in case you’re wondering – yes, it’s true: I was outpaced by Mrs Coote in the go kart race! A moment the children won’t let me forget any time soon.

Finally, a quick reminder as we head into what looks to be a very warm spell: please ensure children are coming to school with water bottles, sun hats and wearing sun cream.  We’ll continue to encourage regular water breaks and seek shade when needed.

Thank you, as always, for your support.  Have a wonderful and sunny weekend!

Warm regards

Mr Clarke

News from the Resource Base

In the RB this week, the children have continued to work incredibly hard to complete their assessments.  We are all very proud of their perseverance and resilience; two values which we encourage in the children on a regular basis.

RB1 have worked on similes and their 3 Little Pigs stories.  It has been wonderful to read the descriptions they have used.

RB2 have been demonstrating their skills in subtracting from mixed numbers.  This has looked incredibly difficult yet they have shown how fabulous they are.

RB3 have recapped telling the time to 5 minute intervals and converting analogue time to digital time on a 12 hour clock.  They have found this challenging but they have been role models of how to try your best and stay positive.

A very busy week but one that both pupils and staff should be very proud of!

News from EYFS

Well this week has been particularly exciting for the children as they have been to meet their new teachers!  They were very excited to spend the day in Year 1 and had a fabulous time.

In class, we have been learning about speech marks from our Farmer Duck story and we have created some amazing writing about how the poor duck feels during the story.

In maths, we have been learning about positional language and we have sung songs, danced and used an obstacle course to help us remember all the new vocabulary.

Next week, we will continue with these themes and considering our transition to Year 1 during the week.  On Thursday, we will be welcoming our new children for next year into our classrooms so it will be a busy time!

Influential Figure – Dr Shini Somara (Engineering)

Dr Shini Somara is a British mechanical engineer, broadcaster, producer and author.  She has written a number of books to inspire young people, particularly girls, to aim for a career in science and engineering.  The broadcasts she has been involved in have helped to make complex engineering concepts more easy to understand for a wider audience.

Music Moment

Our music moment this week is Timothee Chalamet and the Cast of Wonka – World of Your Own.

Fortnightly Focus: Praise Others

This fortnight, we are celebrating praising others, which means saying kind things when someone does something great!  It could be a friend who helped you, someone who tried really hard, or someone who made you smile.

Did you know that when you praise others, you help them feel happy and confident?  It’s also a way to show respect for their choices and efforts, and that connects to our value of Individual Liberty.  Individual Liberty means everyone has the freedom to be themselves and make their own choices and when we praise others, we celebrate what makes them special.

So, this week and next, let’s all look out for moments to say something nice to someone else.  It could be:

“Well done for working so hard!”

“I like how you shared your ideas.”

“You’re really kind and helpful.”

Remember, your kind words can make a big difference and help everyone feel proud to be themselves!

Who will you praise today?
