Headteacher’s Message

Dear Glebe Families

As we head full throttle into the end of term, there’s lots happening across the school.  Next Friday marks an exciting milestone for our Year 6 children as they journey to their transition day at secondary school.  A wonderful opportunity to explore their new surroundings, meet future classmates and friends, and start building confidence for the next chapter of their learning adventures! On the same day, all our children will spend time with their new teachers for the next academic year, a moment filled with curiosity, anticipation and excitement for both parents and children, alike.

Speaking of Year 6, this coming week they’re away on their residential trip, embracing adventure, trialling out teamwork and innovating life-long skills which encourage independence and personal growth.  From climbing walls to campfire stories, we’re sure they’ll return full of memories and massive smiles!

A special mention must also go to our Year 1 children, who have shown brilliant focus and resilience during their phonics screening checks this week.  They tackled each sound and word with confidence and determination, truly a credit to their teachers and to themselves.

Lastly, a quick note to say that end-of-year reports will be shared with families in the coming weeks.  These will give a clear and personalised overview of your child’s progress and personal strengths as we celebrate all they’ve achieved this year.

The weather’s warming up (even more!) so please remember to slap on some sunscreen as we enjoy the beautiful weekend forecast.

Warm regards

Mr Clarke

Free After School Clubs – Deanes

A reminder that week commencing 7 July is the final week for the sporting clubs with the Deanes School coaches.

News from the Resource Base

In RB1 the children have become authors and have written their own traditional fairy tales based on a picture stimulus.  They have created imaginative similes and adjectives to add interest to their stories.  We have had villains of cunning wolves and wicked witches, but of course all fairy tales have a happy ending!  We are starting to learn about fractions in maths, starting with finding half of shapes and amounts.

In RB2 we have learnt about the art of note-taking.  We then applied what we learnt to some text and videos of an interview with Sir Edmund Hillary who was the first to climb Mount Everest.  The children did brilliantly!  We took our time in discussing what we’d read or heard and worked as a team to decide on what was the key information that we needed from it.

In maths we have been subtracting from mixed numbers.  This has been challenging but the children have persevered.  I am very proud of them.

In RB3 the children have been planning their independent writing for a non-chronological report.  They have been brilliant at recalling the features of this text type.  In maths, we have continued with our decimal work.  They have also been completing some assessments.  They have persevered and shown resilience during this time and we are incredibly proud to see them demonstrating this.  Well done, RB3!

In deaf studies the children have been learning about their deaf identity in the context of home, school and in the community.

News from EYFS

This week we said a sad farewell to our chicks who have travelled back to Barleylands to enjoy life on the farm.

In class we have continued with The Little Red Hen and have all written an impressive amount of writing in our books to re-tell the story.

In maths we have been learning some complicated repeating patterns, take a look at Topmarks website so the children can show you how good they are!

Next week we are learning Farmer Duck and will be looking at positional language (under, over, next to…)

Music Moment

Our music moment this week is Anna Meredith – Connect It.

Fortnightly Focus: Praise Others

This fortnight, we are celebrating praising others, which means saying kind things when someone does something great!  It could be a friend who helped you, someone who tried really hard, or someone who made you smile.

Did you know that when you praise others, you help them feel happy and confident?  It’s also a way to show respect for their choices and efforts, and that connects to our value of Individual Liberty.  Individual Liberty means everyone has the freedom to be themselves and make their own choices and when we praise others, we celebrate what makes them special.

So, this week and next, let’s all look out for moments to say something nice to someone else.  It could be:

“Well done for working so hard!”

“I like how you shared your ideas.”

“You’re really kind and helpful.”

Remember, your kind words can make a big difference and help everyone feel proud to be themselves!

Who will you praise today?
