Headteacher’s Message

Dear Glebe Families

What a wonderfully busy week it has been here at school!  From creativity in the classroom to achievements on the sports field and performances on stage, there has been something for everyone to be proud of.  Our children have once again shown how much talent, enthusiasm and resilience they possess and it’s been a joy to witness.

Yesterday, we secured the title of District Sports champions for the second consecutive year!  Their teamwork, determination and sportsmanship were second to none; cheering one another on, pushing themselves to do their best and showing true resilience in every event.  Congratulations to everyone who contributed to this fantastic victory!

Earlier this week, we were delighted to welcome a writing moderator into school to review the work of our Year 6 pupils.  The moderation process is a key part of assessing writing at the end of primary school and we were so proud to hear how impressed both the moderator and our staff were with the standard of writing. The creativity, flair and attention to detail on display in the children’s work were truly outstanding; a testament to their hard work and the dedication of our teachers.

Our school choir also had the wonderful opportunity to perform at the Cliffs Pavilion as part of the annual Junior Music Festival.  This joyful event is always a highlight in the calendar and our pupils lit up the stage with their singing and dancing to a mix of classics and contemporary favourites.  The atmosphere was electric and it was lovely to see the audience swept up in the energy and excitement of the performance.

Looking ahead, Year 6 have an exciting few weeks with Enterprise Week just around the corner, followed by their residential trip and, unbelievably, preparations for their end of primary production.  It’s a special time of year and we look forward to sharing it with them and you.

Have a lovely weekend!

Warm regards

Mr Clarke

News from the Resource Base

In RB1, we have continued our writing unit around traditional tales.  This week, the children have been innovating the text by choosing different main characters and villains!  We have also continued our work on money in maths and have learnt how to make £1 and compared amounts.

In RB2 this week, we have focused on subtracting fractions.  The children have also been using the inverse to answer some tricky questions where there are gaps in the number sentences.  In English, we have looked at note taking and how we can use it to help us.

In RB3, we have been creating a group non-chronological report about the ‘8 Amazing Planets’.  The children have used some fantastic vocabulary and sentence structure.  In maths, they have been comparing, ordering and rounding decimals.  These are tricky skills to master but the children have persevered and have shown progress.

News from EYFS

We have had a lovely week in Reception welcoming our new chicks!  We had a surprise early arrival on Monday morning to welcome us in and two more followed soon after.  We have, therefore, continued learning the story of The Little Red Hen, learning actions for the story and writing our own story maps.

In maths, we have been learning doubles, we need to learn doubles to 5, but lots of us are learning our doubles to 10!

Next week we are looking at pattern in maths and learning about life cycles especially now we know the life cycle of a chicken.

Fortnightly Focus: Individual Liberty

“Communicate what you want appropriately”

This week, we are learning about individual liberty. That means having the freedom to make choices and to say what you think or feel, in a respectful and kind way.

What does it mean?

You are allowed to have your own thoughts, feelings, and ideas.  You can speak up for yourself, but it’s important to do it in the right way.

Good ways to communicate:

Using kind words to ask for what you need

Speaking clearly and calmly

Listening to others and taking turns

Using “please” and “thank you”

Not-so-good ways:

Shouting or interrupting

Demanding or being rude

Ignoring other people’s feelings

Example:

If you need help, you could say, “Excuse me, I don’t understand this, can you help me please?”

Let’s try to:

Speak up when something is important to us

Respect other people’s choices and voices

Remember that everyone has the right to be heard

District Sports – WINNERS!

On Thursday 12 June, 54 children from Years 3 to 6 represented the school at the annual District Sports competition, which was held at Garon Park.  It was an exciting afternoon, with six local schools in attendance.

Our children demonstrated the school’s values throughout the afternoon.  They showed leadership, resilience, ambition and excellence in all the different disciplines.  First or last, the children competed to the best of their abilities.

We won the competition by a wide margin and will, therefore, progress to compete in the top group next year.  Well done to all the children who took part in the event and to all the parents who gave up their time to support the children all afternoon.
