Headteacher’s Message

Dear Glebe Families

Welcome back to the final half term of the school year!  We hope you and your children had a restful break and are ready for the exciting and busy weeks ahead.

We’re pleased to officially welcome Mrs Benfield to the team, as well as Miss Hollis, who has joined us in the Resource Base.  We’re excited to have them working with our children and contributing to our school community.

As we start this half term, we know it will be a packed one, with many special events and end-of-year milestones.  Next week, we’re looking forward to:

-The Junior Music Festival at the Cliffs Pavilion on Wednesday;

-District Sports Day at Garon Park on Thursday.

These are fantastic opportunities for our children to showcase their talents, represent the school, and make lasting memories.

Behind the scenes, we’ve been planning for next year and we’re planning staff deployment plans with our team.  Like many schools, we’re preparing for a year with a very tight budget.  We’ll be doing everything we can to maintain the high standards and broad experiences you expect, but we also appreciate your support and understanding as we carefully manage resources moving forward.

Thank you to all families for your continued encouragement as teachers begin writing end-of-year reports.  We know how much these mean to you and we’re committed to ensuring they reflect each child’s growth and progress.

This week, our school value focus is Ambition.  We’re encouraging all pupils to believe in themselves and aim high in every area of school life.  Please do talk about this at home and help your child think about their own dreams and goals.

Lastly, we’re continuing to promote creativity and inspiration in our weekly Music Moment and Influential Figure features, which are shared in assemblies across the school.  We hope your child enjoys these and shares them with you.

Thank you, as always, for being such an important part of our school community.  We’re looking forward to a positive and energetic final half term.

Wishing you a relaxing weekend.

Warm regards

Mr Clarke

News from the Resource Base

In RB1, we have started our writing unit on traditional tales.  The children retold the story of ‘The Three Little Pigs’ for the cold task.  We have also started a new maths unit, the children have enjoyed practical activities to support their learning with money.

For English in RB2 this week, we’ve started looking at recount writing.  For their cold task the children have written about something they did over the half term and since then we have been discussing what it might be like to climb Mount Everest.  In maths we have been working on adding improper fractions and mixed numbers.

News from EYFS

What an eggciting week!!  We have been learning all about the little red hen and have recalled the events in the story.

Barleylands was an amazing day for all.  The children were really respectful and showed great enthusiasm throughout the day.  We began our day learning about where flour comes from and how wheat becomes flour.  We then were very busy kneading our dough to make our rolls.

After learning how to feed the animals safely we headed out on the farm to feed the sheep, goats and cows and got to visit the other animals too.

Despite the challenging weather, we were able to have a bumpy tractor ride and see all of Barleylands!  We even managed to squeeze in a fun time on the new playground.

In maths, we are practising our skills of doubling and odd and even numbers.  This can all be used to help us learn all about sharing amounts equally.

And…

On Wednesday we were so eggcited to have our surprise delivered to the classroom.  Our mystery eggs arrived and can’t wait to see what hatches out of them!

Influential Figure – Introduction – Women in STEM

This term, our assemblies will focus on women in STEM.  STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.  We will look at a number of influential figures in the coming weeks.

Music Moment

Our music moment this week is Anne Clyne – Night Ferry.

Fortnightly Focus: Individual Liberty

“Communicate what you want appropriately”

This week, we are learning about individual liberty. That means having the freedom to make choices and to say what you think or feel, in a respectful and kind way.

What does it mean?

You are allowed to have your own thoughts, feelings, and ideas.  You can speak up for yourself, but it’s important to do it in the right way.

Good ways to communicate:

Using kind words to ask for what you need

Speaking clearly and calmly

Listening to others and taking turns

Using “please” and “thank you”

Not-so-good ways:

Shouting or interrupting

Demanding or being rude

Ignoring other people’s feelings

Example:

If you need help, you could say, “Excuse me, I don’t understand this, can you help me please?”

Let’s try to:

Speak up when something is important to us

Respect other people’s choices and voices

Remember that everyone has the right to be heard
