Headteacher’s Message

Dear Glebe Families

This week, we were delighted to welcome pupils from local schools to join us for a wonderful Junior Music Festival rehearsal.  Our school hall was filled with the sound of classic songs, familiar melodies and beautiful harmonies that lifted everyone’s spirits.  The energy and enthusiasm shown by our own choir were truly inspiring—they sang with confidence, joy and a real love of music.  It was a wonderful reminder of the power of singing together.

We also enjoyed a fantastic Sports Day and I would like to extend thanks to Mr Acquah for his outstanding planning, organisation and thoughtful preparation.  Sports Day is one of our most cherished events and this year was no exception.  The children clearly had a brilliant time taking part in a wide variety of activities, each one carefully adapted to suit all age groups and abilities.  It was a true celebration of effort, teamwork and fun.

After the half term break, we move into a busy assessment period.  Year 1 children will be completing their Phonics Screening Checks and Year 4 will take part in the Multiplication Tables Check.  We encourage you to keep practising at home over the holiday to help your children feel confident and ready.

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable half term break.  We look forward to welcoming the children back on Monday 2 June.  It’s hard to believe we’re already entering the final half term of the academic year!

Warm regards

Mr Clarke

News from the Resource Base

In RB1, we have been learning about statistics and data in maths and have explored the school environment to make tally charts, block diagrams and pictograms.  We have also completed our writing unit and the children have all written a non-chronological report about a fantasy animal/insect they designed.

In RB2, we have finished our poetry topic with the children writing their own poems based on the story, ‘The Day The Crayons Quit’ by Drew Daywalt.  The children thoroughly enjoyed the story and their poems are fabulous.  They have showcased their understanding of some of the figurative language features that we have learnt over the last 5 weeks and have all been awarded Dojos for their effort.  Over the last few days we have been planning an informal letter based on the story, ‘The Day The Crayons Came Home’ and I look forward to reading their postcards in due course.

News from EYFS

It may have been a short half term, but we have packed an awful lot in and loved our Under the Sea topic!  This week we have used and watched some of the best Finding Nemo clips to support our conversations, writing and thinking about our emotions.  We have also enjoyed finding out about turtles this week and wrote our first non-fiction text with facts about them.

As a special treat, we took the whole year group back to see Miss Atkins at her last Forest School session with Reception yesterday and she gave us all hot dogs as a surprise!  We had lots of fun in the woods playing in the trees, swinging in the hammocks, building pretend fires in our stick tents and making wands and artwork; the children have loved our Forest School sessions and we can’t thank Miss Atkins enough!

Next half term, our topic is Down on the Farm and the children are very excited for our first trip out to Barleylands Farm together.  We have a special surprise for them after we return so watch out for our exciting news!

Fortnightly Focus: Supporting Others – Linked to the British Value of Tolerance

What is Tolerance?

Tolerance means being kind and respectful to everyone, even if they are different from us.  It’s about understanding other people’s feelings, listening to them and treating them how we would want to be treated.

Over the next two weeks, we are going to learn all about Supporting Others.  This helps us show tolerance, which is one of the British values we follow in our school.  When we support others, we are being kind and fair, and this makes everyone feel happy and included!

Sports Update from Mr Acquah

The school team played a football tournament at Roots Hall Stadium on Friday 16 May.  It was a very competitive event; 3 groups of 6 teams per group.  Only one team from each group and the best second placed team, qualifies to the semi-finals.

We played 5 matches in all; won 2, lost 2 and drew 1.  A very good performance from the boys on the day.  Unfortunately, we did not qualify for the semi-finals!  Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable afternoon of football and the boys enjoyed playing on the Roots Hall pitch.

Achievements

On Saturday 17 May, Albie in Year 5 competed in a jujitsu competition and won a Silver medal.  Congratulations!

A wonderful celebratory photo of Leo, Oliver and Tyler in Class 5/4L after their football team won their tournament.  The boys were delighted to win.  Well done, we are very proud of your success!

Congratulations to Lottie in Year 3 who came 1st in her in-house gymnastics competition at the weekend.

Poppy in Year 6 took part in a gymnastics competition last weekend and came joint 3rd/4th in her Beam routine.  Well done!

Fraser in Year 6 competed in his first athletics competition last weekend and came 3rd in the hurdles.  Well done!

Well done to Leo in Year 5 for achieving his Chief Scout’s Silver Award!
