Headteacher’s Message

Dear Glebe Families

What a fantastic end to the term we’ve had!  Our Year 2 football team earned an impressive 3rd place in the football tournament this week.  Well done to all the players for their hard work and sportsmanship!  In addition, today saw our exciting Team Captains Afternoon take place, a wonderful event designed and organised by our own team captains.  It’s always a joy to watch the children come together, collaborate and share their talents across the school in a fun and creative way.

We were also thrilled to host Early Years interviews on Tuesday and Wednesday, as we prepare for the continued growth of our Nursery following its expansion.  We’re pleased to announce that Mrs Benfield, a familiar face to many of you, will be joining us permanently as a member of our Early Years team.  Alongside Mrs Benfield, we are excited to welcome Mrs Moore and Mrs Rust, who will be joining us shortly after the Easter break as Early Years practitioners.  We look forward to the dynamic energy and new ideas they’ll bring to our wonderful Early Years environment.

As we approach the Easter break, we hope all our families have a restful and enjoyable time together.  We wish you all the best for the holiday and don’t forget to enjoy those delicious chocolate eggs!

Warm regards

Mr Clarke

Fortnightly Focus: Ignoring Unhelpful Comments and Embracing Tolerance

In our next fortnightly focus, we will be discussing how to handle unkind or unhelpful comments.  Sometimes, people may say things that are hurtful or mean, either on purpose or by accident.  It’s important to remember that their words don’t define who you are and you have the power to choose how to respond.

What can you do when you hear unhelpful comments?

Stay Calm and Ignore: When someone says something unkind, take a deep breath and choose not to react.  By ignoring these comments, you show that they don’t affect you.  Responding negatively can sometimes make the situation worse.

Walk Away if Needed: If you feel upset, it’s okay to walk away from the situation.  You don’t need to engage with people who are being hurtful.

Talk to Someone You Trust: If a comment really hurts you, talk to a teacher, a parent, or a friend.  They can offer support and help you deal with the situation in a healthy way.

Linking to British Values of Tolerance

In Britain, we value tolerance, this means accepting and respecting others, even if they are different from us.  Tolerance teaches us to embrace the diversity of people around us and appreciate that everyone has unique qualities.

When we ignore hurtful or unhelpful comments, we’re practising tolerance.  We’re showing that we respect people, even if their words aren’t respectful.  We understand that sometimes people may be rude because they don’t understand others and we choose not to react with anger.  Instead, we maintain respect and kindness.

Remember, everyone has the right to feel safe and respected.  By focusing on kindness and tolerance, we create a positive and supportive community where everyone can thrive.

Achievements

Well done to Nila in Year 6 who has worked really hard the last few years in karate and is now a brown belt after last weekend’s grading exam.

Year 6 Friendly Football Match

The school team played a friendly football match against Oakfield Primary School on Tuesday.  Oakfield play in a different league so they presented us with different challenges.  It was a very highly competitive match, with both sides eager to sign off the football season with a win.

We eventually won 4-2, after going a goal down in the first minute of the match.

Well done to the football team, who should be proud of their performances and achievements this season.  Also, thanks to all the parents and helpers who have supported the team.
