Dear Glebe Families
This week has been another action-packed one here at Glebe, with characters galore descending on the school for World Book Day on Thursday! It was such a vibrant and fun event, although many local Headteachers unfortunately missed out due to the Essex Primary Head’s Association clash. Nonetheless, it was wonderful to see all of the photographs and the creativity that our pupils displayed. I also had a great time playing along with our Masked Reader competition, such fun!
A big congratulations to Evie-Jo in Year 3, who won the Golden Ticket raffle and will become Assistant Headteacher for the day, what an exciting experience ahead! Also, a special well done to our Year 5/6 football team who played a match against Rayleigh Primary School yesterday. I know the amount of dedication and practice that Mr Acquah and the boys put into these competitions and tournaments, and they certainly did us proud.
As the weekend approaches, it looks like the weather will be warming up, perfect timing to relax and enjoy the sunshine. I hope you all manage to get some well-deserved rest and fun over the next few days.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend!
Warm regards
Mr Clarke
Headteacher

Communication
A reminder to parents and carers to follow our Communications Policy which can be found here, to ensure the appropriate steps are followed for support. There is a 72 hour response period, however, we do aim to respond within that time. We will always work in line with our policy and responses will come from the appropriate staff who are best placed to support, in the first instance.
Fortnightly Focus: Walking Away
This fortnight, we’re focusing on a very important skill: Walking Away. Sometimes, when we feel upset or frustrated, it can be hard to stay calm. In these moments, we might want to shout, argue, or say something hurtful. But one of the best things we can do is walk away from the situation.
Walking away doesn’t mean ignoring the problem or giving up. It means taking a moment to cool down, clear our heads and make better choices. When we walk away, we show tolerance – one of the British values that we believe helps us all live together peacefully.
Here’s how you can practice walking away:
When we walk away, we show tolerance for others by respecting their feelings and letting them have their space. Tolerance means accepting and understanding each other, even when we don’t always agree. By practising walking away, we’re helping to make our school a kinder, more respectful place where everyone feels safe and valued.

World Book Day this Thursday, was thoroughly enjoyed by the pupils and the staff. It was so exciting to see everyone dressed up as their favourite characters. The pupils took part in reading related activities all day, including our masked reader quiz, where they viewed staff members reading stories in disguise and had to guess who they were. Classes paired up for some peer reading and it was wonderful to see children of different ages enjoy stories together. Some classes took part in live broadcasts, including the Footy and Booky Quiz and a BBC Teach live writing session. Others carried out reading scavenger hunts or designed their own book covers.
We were overwhelmed by the response to our two World Book Day competitions. We had 148 entries for our story scene in a box competition, depicting scenes from a multitude of different stories. The imagination and creativity demonstrated was outstanding and the pupils enjoyed going to view all of the entries displayed in the hall. Class staff across the school were amazed by the confidence and capability shown by the pupils who entered the reading competition. The winners went forward to read in assembly in front of the whole school.
Thank you to parents and carers for supporting our activities and helping to make World Book Day so special.
