Headteacher’s Message

Dear Glebe Families

As we approach the half term break, I want to thank you all for your continued support throughout this term.  It’s been a busy and productive few weeks, with so many positive moments to celebrate.

This week, our staff have been participating in refresher training on phonics and early reading with Miss Mitchell and Mrs Coote.  This training will help to strengthen our approach to teaching reading and ensure that we are providing the best possible support to our children.

I’d also like to take a moment to highlight the importance of our parent collaborations through the One Plans.  Your input has been invaluable and we truly appreciate your partnership in helping to create a learning environment and tailored provision, where all children can thrive.

Don’t forget about our parents’ evening on the first week back after half term.  This is a great opportunity to virtually meet with your child’s teachers and discuss their progress.

Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable half term break!

Warm regards

Mr Clarke

Fortnightly Focus: Empathy – British Values of Tolerance

This fortnight, we’re focusing on the important value of empathy.  Empathy means understanding how other people feel and being kind and caring.  It helps us show tolerance, which is a key British value.  Tolerance is about respecting others, even if they are different from us.  Whether it’s their culture, religion, or opinions, we are all different and that’s okay!

Empathy helps us build friendships and a kind community, where everyone feels safe and accepted.

Key Points

Empathy = Understanding others’ feelings

When someone is sad, can you imagine how they feel?

When someone is happy, can you share in their joy?

Tolerance = Respecting differences

Even if someone has a different idea, belief, or appearance, we show respect.

Just like you want to be treated kindly, others want the same.

Strategies we can use to practice empathy and tolerance:

Listen carefully: When someone speaks, give them your full attention.  Listen without interrupting.  You might learn something new about them and understand how they feel.

Use kind words: Speak to others the way you want to be spoken to.  If you don’t agree with something, it’s okay to say it kindly and respectfully.

Put yourself in their shoes: Think about how others might feel in different situations.  Ask yourself, “How would I feel if that happened to me?”  This helps you understand their emotions.

Be helpful: If you see someone struggling or feeling left out, ask how you can help.  A small act of kindness can make a big difference!

Appreciate differences: Celebrate the things that make us unique.  For example, we might like different foods, enjoy different hobbies, or have different traditions.  That’s what makes the world interesting!

Stand up for others: If you see someone being treated unfairly because they are different, speak up.  It’s important to be brave and help others feel included.

Influential Figure of the Week

Charles Robert Darwin was an English naturalist, geologist and biologist, widely known for his contributions to evolutionary biology.  He travelled and explored much of the world, making new discoveries of animals and plants and completed extensive, important research.  He is especially known for his work in South America and the Galapagos Islands where he started to recognise that all animals change and adapt to suit their environment, or habitat.  Later in life, he published a ground-breaking book which shook the world and turned traditional religious theory of humankind’s creation on its head, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection.

Music Moment of the Week

This week we have been listening to The Dance of the Little Swans by Tchaikovsky from the famous ballet, Swan Lake.

Achievements

Over the weekend, Poppy performed for the first time with her cheerleading team at the ICC (International Cheerleading Championships).  Her team did a great job along with the other 6 teams that competed for Southend Elite Cheerleading.

Poppy has never done anything like this before and was quite nervous but came away having really enjoyed herself and feeling very proud, she also came home with a medal.  Well done!

Congratulations to Blossom, who has completed her final level 8 certificate and badge within ice skating.  Well done for all your dedication and hard work!

Year 5 and Year 6 Football Match

On Wednesday, the school football team played their first match of 2025, away to Our Lady of Ransom.  The team continued from where they left off in 2024, playing some amazing football.  With just a couple of games to go, we went top of the league with a deserved 5–3 victory.

Well done to all the boys who represented the school so gallantly and thanks to the parents who, not only offered transport, but also stayed to support the boys.
