Dear Glebe Families
It’s been another exciting and busy week here at school! A particular highlight was our children performing at Young Voices at the O2. It was an unforgettable experience and I couldn’t help but smile when I heard that even the adults were showing off their urban dance moves alongside the children!
Some of our Year 3 pupils joined me this morning to visit a resident at a Rayleigh care home who is celebrating her 100th birthday today! Doris was delighted to see the children who delivered cards and flowers to help her celebrate this extraordinary milestone.
This week, our staff also met to review our behaviour policy. We’re committed to creating a positive and consistent approach to rewards and consequences, using positive instructional language and reinforcement. This update is in direct response to valuable feedback from our parent community and we’re confident it will help nurture even more supportive and respectful relationships in our school.
Looking ahead, next week promises to be equally exciting, with a special Valentine’s lunch, as well as phonics and reading workshops for our staff to continue strengthening the foundation of learning for our children. We’re also gearing up for a fun-filled end of term!
Thank you for your continued support. Wishing you a wonderful weekend.
Warm regards
Mr Clarke

Fortnightly Focus: Empathy – British Values of Tolerance
This fortnight, we’re focusing on the important value of empathy. Empathy means understanding how other people feel and being kind and caring. It helps us show tolerance, which is a key British value. Tolerance is about respecting others, even if they are different from us. Whether it’s their culture, religion, or opinions, we are all different and that’s okay!
Empathy helps us build friendships and a kind community, where everyone feels safe and accepted.
Key Points
Empathy = Understanding others’ feelings
When someone is sad, can you imagine how they feel?
When someone is happy, can you share in their joy?
Tolerance = Respecting differences
Even if someone has a different idea, belief, or appearance, we show respect.
Just like you want to be treated kindly, others want the same.
Strategies we can use to practice empathy and tolerance:
Listen carefully: When someone speaks, give them your full attention. Listen without interrupting. You might learn something new about them and understand how they feel.
Use kind words: Speak to others the way you want to be spoken to. If you don’t agree with something, it’s okay to say it kindly and respectfully.
Put yourself in their shoes: Think about how others might feel in different situations. Ask yourself, “How would I feel if that happened to me?” This helps you understand their emotions.
Be helpful: If you see someone struggling or feeling left out, ask how you can help. A small act of kindness can make a big difference!
Appreciate differences: Celebrate the things that make us unique. For example, we might like different foods, enjoy different hobbies, or have different traditions. That’s what makes the world interesting!
Stand up for others: If you see someone being treated unfairly because they are different, speak up. It’s important to be brave and help others feel included.
Influential Figure of the Week
Rosa Parks (“the mother of the civil rights movement”) invigorated the struggle for racial equality in 1950s Southern America, when she refused to give up her bus seat to a white man in Montgomery, Alabama. Parks’ arrest on 1 December 1955 launched the Montgomery Bus Boycott by 17,000 black citizens. Eventually, after over 370 days of not using the buses, the law was changed to allow all people to travel on any part of a public bus and to be allowed to keep their seat rather than get up for a white person. It was a small step in the fight for racial equality.
Music Moment of the Week
This week we have been listening to This Is Me – Keala Settle. This well loved song from the well-known film The Greatest Showman, is uplifting and powerful; teaching us that we should be accepted for who we are, not how we look. It infers that difference is beautiful, not frightening.

On Wednesday, 27 children comprising of 15 boys and 12 girls took part in the highly competitive and challenging indoor athletics event at the Deanes School. The competition tests the agility, speed and endurance of the children at a frantic pace.
16 schools were represented altogether (8 schools in the morning and 8 in the afternoon). The children competed to the best of their abilities and they were a credit to the school. All times and distances are converted into points, which means that we would not know the results until all the points have been added up (both morning and afternoon events).
The final results will be published in the Gazette as soon as I receive it. Thanks for your continued support.
