Headteacher’s Message

Dear Glebe Families

I can hardly believe we’ve reached the end of this marathon half term!  It’s been a whirlwind of activity and while staff and children alike are exhausted, we’ve certainly had our fair share of fun and adventure along the way.

Just today, Miss Redwood saved the day by organising an impromptu Stone Age event for Year 3 after our scheduled visitors were unable to attend.  A huge thank you goes out to all the staff who stepped up at the last minute with ideas and resources to make this possible, it truly shows the teamwork and dedication we are so fortunate to have here at Glebe.

This half term has been packed with themed days, parent lunches, enrichment events, football tournaments, football matches and, of course, our Ofsted inspection!  We’ve crammed so much enjoyment into these weeks, making for a truly memorable time for all.

We also had special assemblies and this week we were privileged to have Rev’d Glen speak to the children about Harvest and the importance of gratitude.  It’s always a pleasure to see the children reflect on these values, especially at such a busy time of year.

Looking ahead, please don’t forget that parents’ afternoon and evening will take place during the first week back after the break.  On Tuesday afternoon, we’ll be trialling new enrichment events in school with the children and therefore, children will not be able to attend consultations.  They should be collected as usual at the end of the day.

I’d like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt thanks to all of our incredible staff for making these wonderful experiences happen, to our fantastic children for embracing the many challenges and adventures this term has brought, and to you, our wonderful Glebe parents and families for your continued positivity and support.

Have a fantastic half term break and we look forward to seeing you all again in November!

Warm regards

Mr Clarke

Uniform Standards

As we strive to maintain our high expectations for uniform, please be reminded that during the cold weather, a Glebe green fleece or school jumper may be worn during PE to provide extra warmth.  Unfortunately, due to a number of children not meeting the PE uniform expectations, hoodies are not permitted, after half term.  This means children can only wear school jumpers or fleeces for outdoor PE.

Also, as per the Essex guidelines and for healthy and safety reasons, pupils may only wear stud earrings to school except on PE days.  Hooped earrings are not appropriate due to health and safety reasons and any pupil wearing them will be asked to remove them.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Fortnightly Focus: Demonstrating Respect

Respect means showing kindness and consideration for others, even when they are different from us or when we don’t always agree with them.

Here are some ways you can show respect:

  • Listening carefully to others when they are speaking.
  • Using polite words like “please,” “thank you,” and “excuse me.”
  • Taking care of school property, toys, books and other things that belong to you or others.
  • Respecting differences by being kind to everyone, no matter their background, beliefs, or abilities.

Respect is also one of the key British Values.  In our diverse country, respect helps us live and work together peacefully, whether it’s at school, home, or in the wider community.  It helps create a positive environment where everyone feels valued and included.  Let’s make sure we show respect in all that we do!

Music Moment of the Week

This week’s music moment is a classical piece by Tchaikovsky called The Harvest (August – from The Seasons) with full orchestral accompaniment.

Year 5 & 6 Boys’ Football Update from Mr Acquah

We have been very busy this week as far as football is concerned!  After the very successful football tournament at Deanes, where as many as 16 boys from Year 6 represented the school, we had another match against Down Hall school last Friday.  This time, we played mainly a Year 5 team.  The boys acquitted themselves very well, but lost to a very strong Down Hall team.

We kicked off the league season with a fixture against Grove Wood.  It was a very competitive match and we won by 4 goals to 1.  The boys were a credit to the school and each one of them exhibited the ingrained school values of excellence, resilience and ambition.

The day after the victory over Grove Wood, we made the short trip to Edward Francis in our second league fixture.  Again, the Glebe machine was on full display as we won by 6 goals to 1.

Thanks to the parents for their wonderful support on both days.
