Headteacher’s Message

Dear Glebe Families

As we approach the final week of the term, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the penultimate week, which has been phenomenally busy and filled with incredible activities and achievements.

Year 6 Performances and Achievements

Our Year 6 children have been hard at work with multiple dress rehearsals for their performances, much to the delight of the younger children.  We had two amazing performances for parents, including some delightfully ‘cringe’ dancing on Tuesday evening, which was a huge hit!

On Tuesday, we received the Year 6 SATs results and are thrilled to share that our children have once again achieved outstanding results, broadly in line with national figures.  Additionally, our Year 4 multiplication checks showed an impressive increase in average point scores compared to last year.  Our Year 2 children performed on par with national standards across subjects and our Early Years children achieved a Good Level of Development (GLD) in line with national expectations.  A huge well done to all the children and a heartfelt thank you to everyone at Glebe who supported them.

Positivity Friday

Today was Positivity Friday, a day dedicated to celebrating our children’s successes.  The children shared what they love about school and showcased their growth mindset.  Speaking of which, in a show of support for the England football team, everyone wore England colours.  Let’s cheer on the Lions this Sunday!  Good luck, team!

Upcoming Event

On Tuesday, we will host our much-anticipated family picnic on the field, followed by some fun races.  After the event, parents are welcome to sign their children out with their class teacher and take them home.  Let’s hope for good weather, as we have no alternative plans if it rains and it would be such a shame to cancel.

Thank You and Feedback

A big thank you to everyone who attended our open event on Monday.  It was wonderful to welcome you all.  Based on your feedback, next year, we will hold separate events for viewing your child’s work and meeting the teacher to ensure a more focused experience for everyone.

Final Thoughts

I can’t believe I’m saying this already, but have a lovely weekend and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday for the last week of term!

Warm regards

Mr Clarke

Fortnightly Focus – Understanding Relationships

Understanding relationships means learning how to get along with others, showing kindness and knowing how to work together.  Here are some simple ways to help you understand relationships:

Be Kind – Being nice to others makes them feel happy and makes you feel good too.  Smile, say “please” and “thank you,” and share with your friends.

Listen – When someone is talking to you, pay attention to what they are saying.  It shows that you care about their feelings and thoughts.

Talk About Your Feelings – If something is bothering you or making you happy, talk about it.  Letting others know how you feel helps them understand you better.

Ask Questions – If you don’t understand why someone is upset or happy, ask them nicely.  Questions like “How are you feeling?” or “What happened?” can help.

Play Together – Playing games and working on projects with others teaches you how to share, take turns and work as a team.

Say Sorry – If you hurt someone’s feelings, say sorry. Everyone makes mistakes and saying sorry helps fix things and makes you a better friend.

Be Supportive – If a friend is sad, try to cheer them up. If they are happy, celebrate with them.  Being there for each other builds strong friendships.

Understand Differences – Everyone is different and that’s okay.  Some friends might like different games or foods and learning about these differences makes friendships interesting.

Follow Rules – Rules help everyone get along.  Follow rules at home, school and with friends to make sure everyone feels safe and respected.

Practice Patience – Sometimes you have to wait your turn or give others a chance to speak.  Being patient shows that you respect others.

By doing these things, you can understand and build good relationships with your friends, family and everyone you meet.

Music Moment of the Week – Aretha Franklin R.E.S.P.E.C.T

Composer: Otis Redding

Singer: Aretha Franklin

Song Title: R.E.S.P.E.C.T

Period: Contemporary/soul

Written: 1965

Released by Franklin: 1967

Aretha Franklin is one of the most popular and influential singers there has ever been.  Many female and male singers take inspiration from her music.  In this week’s assembly, Aretha Franklin asks for respect.  She says she doesn’t need anything else.  Just respect.  Listen to the structure in the chorus.  Can you hear the ‘call and response’ feature used?  Aretha solo sings, “All I’m asking for is some respect’.  The chorus reply with “Just a little bit”.  This is a jazz feature and originates from African music.

Achievements

Well done to Tyler W who swam 24 lengths to get his certificate for 600 metres!

Congratulations to Isaac S who was awarded Manager’s Player of the Season for Hullbridge football team U10 on Saturday.  He was very proud of his achievement as were his family.

Henry H joined Beavers (his first ever extra-curricular club) and had to be ‘invested’ in to the group to become an official Beaver.  Ruby’s mum helped Henry’s mum to learn how to sign the ‘Beaver promise’ and she then taught Henry it.  He made his promise verbally and using BSL and then all the other Beavers learnt the BSL for the promise too.

Moreover, learning it in BSL went towards his ‘disability badge’ as well as needing to talk about what a disability is which he did and spoke about his hearing aids being his disability.  We instead call them his ‘super powers’ and Tuesday evening at Beavers he earnt his first two badges, the disability badge and the creative badge.  He was so proud of himself!

Year 5 Author Visit
