Headteachers message

I can’t quite believe we have reached the end of the first full week in July!

Time seems to be passing so quickly!   With the summer holidays fast approaching, we’ve not let that slow us down here at Glebe.

This week, we welcomed our new Reception parents to a coffee morning on Tuesday. It was lovely to see so many of you again. The children settled so quickly to stories, singing and games. It was brilliant to see them so ready for school life!

We have also had a trip to Colchester Castle this week in Year 2/3. The children were incredibly excited and from what I hear, brilliantly knowledgeable at the castle itself. Well Done 2/3.

On Wednesday and Thursday, Year 6 performed a show stopping musical version of Romeo and Juliet. To say that we were all immensely proud is an understatement. I can’t believe we will be waving them off to secondary school in a matter of weeks. That said, they are more than ready!

On Monday, we look forward to welcoming you to our annual open evening between 3:30 and 5. Please take the opportunity to visit your children’s current classroom. After that, you will be welcome to find your child’s class for next year and meet their new teachers. Don’t worry, SLT and other staff will be on hand to help you find your way!

Meet the New Class Teacher

On Monday 10th July you will have an opportunity to meet your child’s new class teacher in their new class room. The children will be dismissed  from school at the normal time from their classrooms.  The main doors will be open at 3:30pm in the lower school and upper school building to enable teachers to move to their new room.

Gardening Club
Firstly we would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to Ron for the hard work that he has done, and continues to do, in our garden and around the school over the last 4 years.  This year we decided to enter into the ‘Schools in Bloom’ competition, which is run by Meadow Croft Garden Centre.  Yesterday our display was judged, the children were so excited to share how they had grown the plants on from seedlings, watered and potted them on when they had grown bigger.  They explained that they had used all recycled items to create their display.  We were so proud of them and their knowledge about the garden and flowers.  We should find out next week who won the competition but in our eyes, we are the winners!!  Please see below some photos of the display and children.

After School Club
May we please remind you that the after school club closes early on a Friday afternoon at 4:30pm.  Unfortunately, we can’t change the system to not accept a ‘C’ code for one day, which has caused a bit of confusion.

End of Summer Term
School closes for Summer on Thursday 20th July.

Phones from September

We have had an increasing number of issues outside of school that are being brought into the classroom. Our priority is to educate and support which we will do. That said, we also have a duty to safeguard all children. To ensure a culture of trust and safeguarding, any child bringing their mobile device into school, from September, will be required to hand them to their class teacher, who will safely store them in a locked cupboard. This is not unusual practice and is common place in many primary settings. If you would rather the class teacher did not safely store your child’s phone during the day, then please do not send them to school with a mobile device. Thank you for your co-operation.

Trading cards

A number of children enjoy trading cards, such as Pokemon and football stickers. Unfortunately, the school cannot be responsible for any swaps that pupils make. Please have a discussion with your children regarding sensible trading/swaps if they choose to bring cards into school.

Year 6 Leavers Assembly
Year 6 Leavers Assembly will be on Wednesday 19th July at 2:00pm.  Maximum of 2 adults watching per child please, this is due to our fire regulations.  Entrance will be via Creswick Avenue only, the gate will be opening at approximately 1:50pm.  We look forward to welcoming you then!
