Dear Glebe Families
What a full and happy end to the term it has been.
It was lovely to see the children looking so smart for their class photographs this week – there was a real sense of pride, and I’m sure you’ll agree the results will be ones to treasure.
Parents also enjoyed the brilliant iRock concert. The atmosphere was fantastic and it was wonderful to see so many children performing with such confidence and enthusiasm. Moments like these really remind us how important it is to give children opportunities to shine beyond the classroom.
Year 2 had a great time on their trip to Hyde Hall. They represented the school beautifully and made the most of the chance to learn in a different environment – we are very proud of them.
After the Easter break, we will be sending out mini reports to give you an update on how your child is getting on. Thank you to everyone who attended parents’ evening; it was great to see so many of you and to share those important conversations about the children’s progress.
There is plenty to look forward to next term. We are excited to welcome parents into school for the Year 4 and 5 lunches, and we have a range of visitors coming in from different faiths and communities to further enrich our curriculum. Year 3 are also looking forward to their trip to the Natural History Museum, and that’s just the start of what promises to be another busy and enjoyable term.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support.
Have a lovely Easter break.
Warm regards
Mr Clarke

News from EYFS
This week in Reception we’ve had an egg-cellent time! We have continued our topic of dinosaurs; this week we looked at a dinosaur skull to help us think about what they might have eaten. We learnt the meanings of the words carnivore, herbivore and omnivore, and discussed what different dinosaurs might have eaten and why, thinking about their teeth and features.
We also explored what sounds dinosaurs might have made and how we make those decisions. For example, we thought about whether a T-Rex, as a meat eater, might have sounded like a lion. To finish our dinosaur topic, we used ‘Now Press Play’ to move, sound and behave like different dinosaurs, which was lots of fun!
In Maths, we have been learning about 3D shapes, including their names and properties, and spotting them in the environment. We even proved that a sphere is not a circle by rolling it!
We have also been busy completing lots of Easter crafts. We made chocolate nest cakes, created collage Easter eggs, decorated bunnies and made Easter cards to take home. We have also introduced the concept of Easter and discussed why it is celebrated.
Well done, Reception, for another fantastic week!
News from the Resource Base
RBH: In English we have been looking at instructions. The children started by writing a set of instructions for how to make toast (after Miss Hollis had modelled this using a toy toaster). This was a cold task to see what the children already know about instructions. We then looked at the features of instructions and the children had to order instructions that were all muddled up. In Maths, we have been continuing to look at multiplication.
On Thursday we had our Year 2 trip to Hyde Hall and what a lovely trip we had. From seeing a Mummy duck who had set up her nest right by the Hyde Hall classroom to throwing petals in the air (as natural confetti). There was lots of exploring of nature as well as plenty of opportunities to create art work. I am sure we all slept well last night – including the grown ups!
RBN: The children have been creating their own ideas for their Diary Entry. They ‘hugged’ the model text map to create their map. They have used this brilliantly to begin their diary and I look forward to reading their finished pieces.
We have been learning to divide 2 digit and 3 digit numbers by a 1 digit number with and without remainders. This has been a challenging concept as it has involved more than one step to solve the calculation. I am proud of their perseverance and strength to continue even though they were finding it hard.
RBR: This week we put the finishing touches to our narratives based on World War II. The children focused on writing powerful openings that created tension and suspense, describing an air raid siren sounding at school and a character rushing back to retrieve something they had forgotten. They worked hard to apply the techniques from our toolkit to engage the reader from the very first sentence.
Today, we had the privilege of welcoming Kerry Tidman and her dog Duckie alongside the other RB children. It was a truly wonderful experience – a morning filled with reflection, thoughtful discussion, and creativity. The children gained so much from hearing about Kerry’s experiences and were fully engaged throughout.
The children created their own kintsugi canvases looking at who we are beneath the gold.
Kintsugi teaches that things which have been broken and repaired are not ruined, but can become even more special and beautiful.
RB: Lastly, we say goodbye to our wonderful pupils, Leo and Ruby. We wish them both all the best on their new adventure – go smash it!
Influential Figure – Margaret Thatcher
Margaret Thatcher was an influential British leader who served as the first female Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. She is remembered for her strong leadership and determination during a time of significant change in the country. Margaret Thatcher’s achievements show children the importance of perseverance, confidence, and taking on challenges, helping to inspire future generations to believe they can make a difference regardless of their background.
