Dear Glebe Families
What a lovely start to the summer term with this beautiful weather! As the temperatures rise, we’re encouraging all children to stay hydrated throughout the day, apply sun cream before school and enjoy plenty of shade during outdoor play. Classrooms are being kept well-ventilated and staff are supporting children to take care in the sun—please do remind your child of these good habits at home too.
We’re now approaching a key part of the school year as we enter the statutory assessment period outlined by the Department for Education. Here’s what’s coming up:
KS2 SATs Week (Year 6): Monday 12 May – Thursday 16 May
Year 1 Phonics Screening Check: Begins Monday 9 June
Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check: Begins Monday 2 June
Children in other year groups will be assessed through teacher assessments, supported by our use of NFER standardised tests to ensure robust and accurate judgments. As you may be aware, KS1 SATs are now optional and as a school we have made the decision to align our Year 2 assessments with the processes used across the rest of the school—this supports a consistent and developmentally appropriate approach for our younger learners, moderated by our professionals.
Alongside academic progress, pupil wellbeing remains a top priority. This week, children have begun completing a Wellbeing Survey through Purple Mash. Our dedicated Wellbeing Warriors, alongside Mrs Parker, will be analysing the responses and updating our Pupil Wellbeing Action Plan to ensure all children feel supported, heard and happy in school.
Finally, thank you for your continued support as we work in partnership to provide both a high-quality education and a nurturing, balanced environment for every child.
We wish you a restful and sunny Bank Holiday weekend ahead.
Warm regards
Mr Clarke

News from the Resource Base
It has been a fun and busy week in the Resource Base. All our groups have been working hard to show off their developing skills. In English, the children in Miss Stimpson’s group have been working hard on past and present tense and using adjectives to describe. Mrs Ryan’s group have been studying Poetry and creating a toolkit of features to support their future work. Miss Neame’s group have been showing off their skills in persuasion and trying to persuade her to buy their latest spy gadgets. For Maths, the children have covered capacity, multiplication and division, and fractions. Please ask your children about this so that they can tell you themselves which topic their group have been learning.
As a Resource Base we work hard to develop the children’s d/Deaf identity and their knowledge of deafness. In Deaf Studies, they have been learning about ‘technology’ over time. The children have been working in mixed aged groups to research a specific area. They have started to create a fact file to present their findings!
To mark Deaf Awareness week, we have introduced ‘Sign of the Week’ to the Gazette so that all children and their families can learn some new signs. It seemed fitting that our first signs are ‘Deaf Awareness’. Look out next week for our next sign to try out with your friends and family!
VE Day
On Thursday 8 May we are celebrating VE80. Over the course of the day the children will be engaging with a number of activities and enjoying a themed lunch.
To help us celebrate we are asking the children to attend in a themed non-uniform.
Lower School – Red, White and Blue (no football kits) or 1940’s/WW2 theme if they wish.
Upper School – 1940’s/WW2 themed. This could be: an evacuee, a land girl, home guard (NO WEAPONS) or a member of the armed forces (again NO WEAPONS).
We understand that not all children are comfortable with wearing ‘outfits’ therefore they are more than welcome to wear Red, White and Blue. However, we do ask for no football kits as a mark of respect.
We are aware that this is the 5A parent lunch day, so parents if you want to join us by dressing up you are more than welcome to, even if it’s just Red, White and Blue!
Fortnightly Focus: Negotiate and Find Solutions
What does it mean to negotiate and find solutions?
Negotiating means talking and listening to others when you don’t agree, so you can work out a fair solution together. It’s not about winning, it’s about understanding each other and making sure everyone feels listened to.
What does this have to do with British Values?
In the UK, we believe in the value of democracy. That means everyone has a say and we listen to different opinions before making a decision, just like we do when we solve problems together at school!
Democracy isn’t just about voting, it’s about learning how to: Listen to others; Take turns to speak; Think about different points of view; Work together to find fair solutions.
