A reminder that Glebe Primary School is a nut free school. Thank you.
Free School Meals for Eligible Children from Low Income Families
Essex County Council know that some eligible children from low income families in Essex schools can miss out on free school meals because their parents have not applied to take them up.
As we are sure you will appreciate, food insecurity is a much more prevalent problem than it used to be, with the problem compounded by the cost of living crisis. This can affect children’s wellbeing, with children from families experiencing food insecurity more likely to suffer poor mental health. Without a healthy lunch, children can struggle to concentrate and learn in the classroom. A free school meal can contribute to children reaching their potential.
We would urge any parents of children in Year 3 and above whose child is eligible for a free school meal and not taking them up at present, to make an application without delay if you wish to access a free school meal.
A quick guide to the eligibility criteria is available via Gov.uk
Fortnightly Focus: Tolerance – Understanding Relationships
What is Tolerance?
Over the next two weeks, we’re going to explore an important word: Tolerance. Tolerance means being kind and respectful to others, even if they are different from you in some way.
What does tolerance look like?
Tolerance in Relationships
Now that we know what tolerance is, let’s talk about how it helps in relationships—with friends, family, classmates and even strangers! Healthy relationships are based on respect and understanding and tolerance is a big part of that.
How can we show tolerance in relationships?
Influential Figure of the Week
Martin Luther King Day is celebrated on the date of his birth. Martin Luther King Jr. was an American Baptist minister, activist and political philosopher who was one of the most prominent leaders in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968.
Music Moment of the Week
This week we have been listening to Brave by Sara Bareilles.
The song highlights how to overcome challenges – “You can be the outcast, or be the backlash of somebody’s lack of love, or you can start speaking up….” which is exactly what Martin Luther King did.

A huge well done to Kian and Melissa in Year 6. Kian qualified to enter the Essex age championships held at the London aquatic centre in London this month. He qualified for 9 races and he was a finalist in 7 and won the Silver for the 50 metre breast stroke. Kian has now qualified to represent Essex in the regional championships being held in Norwich in May.
Melissa won Silver for her 50 metre back stroke. This is a massive achievement for both pupils who are second fastest swimmers in Essex for their age group and stroke!
The school football team took part in their first ever school futsal competition at Waterside, Canvey, on Friday 10 January.
There were 9 schools in attendance. After the first round of matches, we made it to the semi-finals, where we played Rayleigh Primary. After winning the semi-finals, we played Thundersley in the finals. Unfortunately, we lost 3-1, so finished in second place overall.
Well done to the team for representing the school brilliantly. Thanks to all the parents who offered lifts and also stayed to support the team.
