Headteacher’s message

I hope you are all well.  I wanted to take this opportunity to share with you some of the wonderful things I have observed during my visits to various classes this week.

Firstly, I must commend the children in Year 1 for their exceptional learning in phonics.  It was truly a delight to see them confidently practising their sounds and following the phonics scheme with such enthusiasm.  Equally impressive were the pupils in Year 2, who have been using the new handwriting scheme, letter- join, to improve their presentation skills and accurately form their ascenders and descenders.

In the realm of mathematics, the children in Year 3/4 have been utilising a range of visual representations to support their understanding of number sequences.  I was particularly impressed with their ability to apply these strategies in their independent practice.  Year 5 students showcased their fantastic mathematical knowledge, demonstrating their proficiency in using accurate vocabulary to explain their answers.  Meanwhile, the children in Year 6 have been using a variety of representations to gain a deeper understanding of complex calculations, which was truly commendable.

In terms of upcoming events, we are excited to announce our Open Evening on Thursday 23 November.  This event will provide an excellent opportunity for our school to celebrate and showcase our achievements to prospective families.  We hope that some of our children will be eager to participate and demonstrate their learning during this event.  Additionally, a bridging club will be available to those who need it during that afternoon.

In order to improve communication, we are currently finalising some tweaks to our office email system.  However, please remember that Dojo remains available for direct teacher contact.  I kindly request that telephone calls are used for reporting absences.  For our resource base pupils, please email Miss Neame to report sickness and absence.  If you need to speak with me directly, please contact the office as I am unable to receive messages through Dojo.

Thank you for your continued feedback and support.  We genuinely try to listen and build on this.  I hope you have a lovely weekend and I look forward to sharing more exciting updates with you next week.

Warm regards

Mr M Clarke

Achievements

Congratulations to Kian P who took part in a swimming gala last weekend and participated in five races and achieved five medals: 2 Bronze for the 50 metre butterfly and 50 metre breaststroke, 2 Silver for 100 metre backstroke and 100 metre freestyle and Gold in the 100 metre breaststroke.  Well done, Kian!

Over the weekend, Edie P took part in a 24 hour sponsored tennis rackethon at The Deanes Sports Centre.  Edie joined the rest of the team and played tennis until 11.00pm on Friday evening and then returned the following day where she continued to play until the final whistle at 5.00pm!  It was an exhausting but hugely successful fundraiser.  Well done, Edie!

Well done to Fraser C who took part in a sponsored bike ride in the summer holiday to raise money for equipment for his football team.  Along with his football team, Fraser rode 20 miles from Benfleet to Shoeburyness and back.  They raised a whopping £500!
