Headteacher’s Message

Dear Glebe Families

It has been another lively and memorable week at Glebe!  Our Bikeability sessions continued, bringing plenty of excitement (and a few proud wobbles) as pupils grew in confidence on two wheels.  The children have shown fantastic determination and enthusiasm, and we are very proud of their progress.  Meanwhile, our wonderful Friends of Glebe Primary have been busily preparing Christmas hampers and putting the finishing touches to their festive season of events.  We are delighted to share that we have secured a new date for the school disco, details have now been released!  A huge thank you to FOGP for their continued hard work and energy.

Christmas preparations are also well underway across the school.  Rehearsals for our upcoming productions and performances are in full swing, and the sound of singing can be heard drifting cheerfully through the corridors.  The children are showing great excitement and commitment as they learn their lines, practise their songs and prepare to take to the stage.  We can already feel the festive cheer building, and we look forward to welcoming families to celebrate the season with us in the coming weeks.

Year 4 also enjoyed a fantastic trip to the British Museum, where they explored fascinating artefacts and deepened their understanding of ancient civilisations.  The children represented the school beautifully and I’m sure they will return full of curiosity and stories to share.  As always, thank you for your continued support, it makes such a difference to these enriching experiences.

We look forward to another joyful and busy week ahead.

Warm regards

Mr Clarke

News from the Resource Base

In RBS we have been innovating our story.  The children have written their own versions creating new characters and settings.  In maths we have been using diennes to support us to add two 2 digit numbers and recapping using part whole models to partition 2 digit number.

In RBN, we have been using and applying our skills of subtraction with exchanging to solve word problems.  It has been challenging to remember to ‘knock on the door’ and exchange but the children have shown great resilience and perseverance.  In English, the children have written a set of instructions as a group ensuring they include: title, subheadings, method, numbers, imperative verbs, time adverbials, adjectives, adverbs and much more!

In RBR English we’ve been continuing to look at figurative language and this week the class wrote their own poem using the similes/metaphors they’d created in earlier lessons.  In maths we’ve focused on the rules of divisibility, the children have worked really hard on remembering the rules they’ve been taught and hopefully will find them useful when we go into long division in more detail in the coming weeks.

Bullying

When I see the bully

My arms tremble

Like a motor,

I have goosebumps

Like chicken skin.

My legs are jelly.

They make me cry

My tears fall like raindrops

my eyes are as red as a demon’s.

Slowly but surely

My heart begins to glow

My confidence grows

I feel I can share.

News from EYFS

Reception have continued to learn all about celebrations, and it has certainly been a fun-filled week.  We used our craft skills to design and make our own birthday cakes, exploring the ingredients from the story The Toys’ Party.  The children quickly agreed that baked beans, cornflakes, ketchup and jam did not make the most appealing cake mixture!

Inspired by this, the children wrote about the ingredients they would choose for a cake they’d like to make.  We then measured, mixed and poured real ingredients to bake our own small cakes and enjoyed decorating them too!

Creativity has also been flowing in our classroom with the making of party hats, crowns and colourful paper chains in preparation for our very own toy party.

Influential Figure – Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a lifelong champion for fairness and equal rights.  She believed that everyone, no matter their gender, background, or abilities, deserves the same opportunities.  As a Supreme Court Justice, she worked hard to make sure laws protected all people and encouraged others to stand up for what is right.  Her determination, kindness, and courage continue to inspire children and adults to use their voices to make the world a better, more inclusive place.

Music Moment

Our music moment this week was Aretha Franklin – Respect.

Fortnightly Focus on Norms: Linked to the British Value of Respect

Theme: Respect and Making An Impact for Disadvantaged Pupils

Overview: This fortnight, our focus will centre around the British value of respect, a cornerstone of how we interact with others and work together as a community.  We will link respect to our ongoing commitment to making a tangible impact on the learning experiences of our disadvantaged pupils.  This will involve actively anticipating potential barriers, finding solutions to overcome them, and always striving to provide exceptional quality in everything we do.

Key Goals:

Anticipate Problems: Proactively identify challenges faced by disadvantaged pupils, whether in terms of access to resources, emotional wellbeing, or learning gaps.

Find Solutions: Collaboratively come up with effective strategies and interventions that allow us to meet the needs of these pupils, ensuring they feel respected and supported.

Provide Exceptional Quality: Deliver high-quality teaching, tailored support, and a nurturing environment where every pupil is treated with dignity, kindness, and fairness.

How can you support your child during this focus?

Encourage Respectful Behaviour: Discuss what respect means at home and how it can be shown in various situations, whether it’s respecting peers, teachers, or school rules.

Be Proactive in Communication: If your child is facing challenges, reach out to teachers early so we can work together to address any issues before they become bigger obstacles.

Support Learning at Home: Encourage good habits such as time management, organisation, and a positive attitude towards school.  These habits are key to overcoming challenges and ensuring a smooth learning experience.

Reinforce Positive Solutions: Celebrate the small successes when your child finds solutions to difficulties in their work or personal challenges.  This will help them build resilience and confidence.
